Nevermore Film Festival, Feb 18-20

The house lights will go down and the screen will run with blood. Yes indeed, it is once again time for the Nevermore Film Festival.

Their 12th year running, this festival provides an amazing selection of both short and feature length horror films. It proves just how deep and diverse the genre can be, ranging from campy and comedic to dark and diabolical.

The films that will be screened were honed down from a wide variety of submissions, coming from across the globe. They will be divided across the three different screens at the Carolina Theatre, with a few repeats to help fit everyone's schedule. For selected films, the filmmakers will be available after the show to field questions from the audience.

We've dusted off and populated the Durham Film Festival Calendar for Nevermore. It contains all of the show times and descriptions in an easy to read calendar format, which can be paper-savingly imported to your favorite mobile device.

Drag Bingo

The Alliance of AIDS Services Carolina (AAS-C) will be holding a "Be My Valentine" edition of Drag Bingo this Saturday, February 12 in downtown Durham at the Armory (map).

Drag Bingo is a hilarious drag show that just happens to include a game of bingo as part of it. Prizes include gift certificates to local businesses. Proceeds to go benefit the AAS-C, and because all of the event expenses are donated (space, prizes, talent) every single cent goes straight to charity. Check out this video:

Info:

Doors open @ 6:00pm, show starts @ 7:00pm
Tickets are $17 and can be purchased in advance at the Regulator Bookshop or other triangle locations. Tickets also available at the door, but the event frequently sells out, so advance purchase is recommended.

So come out and be their Valentine, have some fun, and support a great local charity!

Curtis Ellers American Circus

Tonight at the Pinhook you can catch Curtis Eller's American Circus along with The Drowning Lovers. I saw this same lineup over the summer elsewhere and it was fantastic. Truly one of the best overall performances I've seen in a while (seriously, check out his website for videos of past performances).

From Curtis Eller:
This will be my first performance in Durham since moving here in December, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to sing and dance for my new neighbors. Remember, attendance is mandatory and Confederate currency will no longer be accepted.
A friend describes Eller's music as "Tom Waits meets Buster Keaton with a banjo." Curtis Eller just moved to Durham from New York City and this is his first Durham based show, so let's show him a Durham welcome.
