Find Your Durham Food Trucks

Sometimes it can be hard to find out where some of Durham's delicious food trucks are. Sometimes they are even all in one place! To keep informed about all the food trucks in one place, I created a Twitter list of all their Twitter feeds. Let me know if I've missed some.

Durham: City of Moustache

The month of Movember is almost upon us! What's Movember? Well...
Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean-shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.
To do our part in supporting the cause of men's health, I have created a Movember team for our fair city, dubbed Durham: City of Moustache. Anyone is welcome to join the team and help raise funds. If you'd rather not participate in the challenge, donations made to the team will go to both the Prostate Cancer Fund and LIVESTRONG.

As I'm already sporting a respectable 'stach, my first pledge toward the cause is that I will be shaving it off come November the first, and starting from a blank canvas. I'd also like to tip my hat to Greg from Freezerburns, who as the captain of the venerable Team RDU will be holding a Movember-thon on Nov 5th.

*Friday*

Catch a show and shake it all night long! There are two plays running in town this weekend:

Breadcrumbs @ Manbites Dog - Written by Jennifer Haley, directed by Jeff Storer, and featuring Marcia Edmundson and Chaunesti Webb. A reclusive writer struggling to complete her last story must depend on a lost young woman for help. From the author of "Neighborhood 3", a moving new play about mothers, daughters, and the moonlit woods of the past. Fri and Sat 8:15pm/$17.

Six Degrees of Separation @ Common Ground - A Ghost & Spice production, written by John Guare and directed by Rachel Klem. A young man claiming to be Sidney Poitier’s son cons an Upper East Side couple. He sets in motion a series of events that will alter the course of their lives forever. Inspired by a true story, the play is both a laugh-out-loud comedy and a biting social commentary about the separation between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have-nots’. Fri and Sat 8:00pm/$16.

After the play, head on over to the Pinhook, for Carpe Noctem' s 4th Friday dance party, Sugar Skull. It'll be DJ Dude Femme kicking out the jams, along with some special guests. Friday night, drink specials, dance floor. 10pm/$5.

*Saturday*

Start the day right with the Triangle Brewing Company Beer Brunch at Revolution - 3 courses and 4 beers. To help all of that wonderful food digest, mosey on over to Brightleaf Square, where Durham Magazine is presenting their Bright Lights, Bull City event. The are partnering with 14 downtown businesses and restaurants for a day of food, drink, live music and shopping. Runs from 2-6pm.

The Durham Tech Science Club's Rugby Clinic & Fundraiser @ Forest Hills Park - Science Club is hosting a rugby clinic as a fundraiser this Sunday from 11-1 at Forest Hills Park. Yelp Helps Party @ Durham Arts Council - This party will celebrate local nonprofits that are looking for new supporters and volunteers.
  • Attendees will have a chance to learn more about each nonprofit with hopes of finding a good match for their interests and volunteer efforts or finding other ways to offer support.
  • It's paired with DAC's October exhibition People You May Know, contemporary portraits that aim to celebrate the diversity and richness of our regional community.
